Description de l'emploi
About Spruce
In just over two years, Spruce has rapidly grown to serve over 750 customers, succeeding where many have struggled. Our ambitious mission is to simplify and boost profitability for businesses installing renewable energy solutions, significantly reducing carbon emissions and enhancing homeowner experiences.
Nearly 20% of the UK's carbon emissions arise from home heating, and replacing gas and oil boilers is essential to achieving net zero. Heat pumps offer a remarkable alternative, converting 1 kW of electricity into 3-5 kW of heat, but their installation processes are slow and cumbersome. This complexity discourages established installers and newcomers alike, making it hard to provide urgent heating solutions when boilers fail.
We address this challenge by providing a comprehensive platform that manages the entire heat pump installation cycle—from initial inquiry to final compliance documentation—freeing installers to concentrate on quality work, superior customer service, and business growth. Since starting in early 2024, we've dramatically impacted UK installation businesses, suppliers, and manufacturers by halving job completion times and doubling sales conversion rates.
Having secured substantial Seed funding from leading investors, we're scaling our team and plan to broaden beyond heat pumps into a full operating system for the home renewables supply chain by year's end, blending features like ServiceTitan, Procore, and AutoCAD.
Role Overview
As a pivotal member of our team, you will transform slow, complex processes into streamlined, intuitive, and even delightful experiences for installers. Despite our strong design foundation, increasing product complexity demands heightened design sophistication.
- Simplify complex decisions involving building physics, fluid dynamics, and compliance so they feel effortless for all users regardless of technical skill.
- Design solutions across diverse platforms including desktop design tools, homeowner outputs, inquiry flows, mobile survey applications (with LiDAR), and collaborative workflows for various user sizes.
- Work closely with developers, coding and shipping improvements yourself when appropriate to accelerate delivery.
- Develop systematic, scalable design systems with reusable components suitable for different platforms and low-tech users.
- Conduct user research by interviewing installers and creating prototypes to validate design choices and discover hidden pain points.
Candidate Profile
We seek candidates with at least three years of product/UI design experience, preferably within startups or fast-paced, mission-driven environments. Ideal candidates are:
- Methodical and clear thinkers skilled at managing complex workflows.
- Comfortable engaging with technical details, even in unfamiliar domains.
- User-centric with a passion for understanding and solving user challenges.
- Excellent communicators confident in leading customer research.
- Self-motivated multitaskers who organize and drive their own initiatives.
Experience designing tools for field teams, low-tech users, or operational workflows is a plus but not essential.
Compensation and Benefits
- Competitive salary ranging from £60,000 to £110,000 based on experience.
- Equity options for meaningful ownership in the company.
- 33 days of annual holiday plus the flexibility to work remotely abroad for an additional 30 days per year.
- Hybrid work model requiring 2-3 days onsite weekly in London or Bristol and full team meetings every two weeks.
- Private medical coverage.
- Access to a workplace nursery benefit scheme (YellowNest).
- Cycle to Work program.
- A supportive, talented team offering exceptional opportunities for professional growth.
Working Environment
- Our 28-person team is split between London and Bristol, collaborating in person multiple times a week and fully every fortnight.
- We foster a meritocratic culture where the best ideas prevail regardless of rank, encouraging critical thinking and respectful challenge.
- Direct interaction with installers on-site is encouraged to ground design decisions in real-world challenges and feedback.
- We prioritize fast iteration and learning from users rather than perfection, embracing ownership and collective support.
- We maintain a culture of honest, kind, and constant feedback to promote continuous improvement.
