Job Location and Type
This position is based at the Market Drayton Delivery Office, TF9 1BJ, with a permanent employment contract.
Compensation and Schedule
The salary is £13.68 per hour, paid monthly, with opportunities for paid overtime. The workweek consists of 35 hours, spread over five days in a seven-day cycle between Monday and Sunday, typically from 07:00 to 15:00, working on a rotating shift basis including some weekends. Delivery routes and hours may vary depending on demand.
Role Overview
As a Postal Delivery Driver (Postie) for Royal Mail, you will be the frontline representative delivering letters and parcels in the local Market Drayton area. Your duties include sorting mail at the delivery office, delivering by van and on foot, and engaging directly with customers. This role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and requires physical endurance.
Key Activities
- Sorting incoming mail and parcels for delivery.
- Driving a Royal Mail van and walking delivery routes.
- Building and maintaining relationships with customers.
- Handling and delivering important items such as exam results, cards, and business parcels.
Working Conditions
- Physically demanding tasks including walking up to 12 miles daily and carrying mailbags weighing over 10 kg.
- Working independently and outdoors regardless of weather conditions.
- Operating under time pressures, especially during peak periods.
Candidate Requirements
- Possession of a full UK manual driving licence, registered with no more than six penalty points, and current address.
- Capability and willingness to drive a Royal Mail van with successful completion of a driving assessment.
- Physical fitness to manage extensive walking, stair and hill climbing, and mailbag handling.
- Reliability, self-motivation, strong organizational skills, resilience, and a commitment to excellent customer service.
