Key Responsibilities

  • Partner with BMO colleagues to spot referral opportunities that can deepen customer relationships beyond everyday personal banking.
  • Greet visitors in the branch lobby, help direct them, and explain digital and self-service options that make banking quicker and easier.
  • Lead customer conversations in the lobby, suggesting alternate service channels and providing guidance on personal banking and investment needs.
  • Handle routine customer transactions accurately and smoothly.
  • Review customer profiles and use needs-based discussions to uncover opportunities, including day-to-day banking and credit card requirements.
  • Help the branch achieve business targets while improving the overall customer experience.
  • Support branch operations such as inventory control, escalated service requests, application follow-ups, filing, and opening/closing tasks.
  • Work as an important part of a flexible, collaborative branch and market team.
  • Use probing questions to understand personal banking and credit card needs and weave in marketing offers and programs where relevant.
  • Keep work details organized so information remains accurate and complete.
  • Look for practical ways to make each interaction feel more personal and memorable.
  • Contribute ideas and effort toward continuous improvement in customer service.
  • Be prepared to work across multiple branches or channels depending on market demand, with schedules that may vary by day, hours, and shifts.
  • Follow risk and compliance procedures to protect customer assets, privacy, and best interests.
  • Stay up to date on the financial services market, legal and regulatory requirements, and the ethical standards expected in the industry.
  • Maintain current knowledge of personal banking products, practices, and trends and use that knowledge in customer discussions.
  • Identify and report activity that may indicate money laundering.
  • Comply with the legal and regulatory rules that apply in the jurisdiction.
  • Protect the bank’s assets while meeting regulatory, legal, and ethical obligations.
  • Handle varied and moderately complex tasks within defined limits and rules.
  • Assess issues, decide on next steps, and escalate when needed.
  • Take on additional related responsibilities as required.
  • Apply the Risk Management Framework in line with Risk Culture, approved risk appetite, and all relevant policies, standards, procedures, frameworks, laws, and regulations to make sound risk-aware decisions.

Qualifications

  • Usually 1 to 2 years of related experience and/or a certification in a relevant field of study is preferred, or an equivalent mix of education and experience.
  • In Canada, registration to sell investment products must be completed or in progress and finished within 12 months, where required by the jurisdiction.
  • You should be comfortable using social media, tablets, smartphones, online tools, and apps.
  • Prior experience in consultative customer service or sales is helpful, especially if you enjoy creating a personal customer experience.
  • Basic understanding of specialized sales and business banking solutions so you can refer customers to the right experts.
  • A genuine desire to help customers.
  • Strong motivation to deliver personalized service.
  • Results-oriented mindset with the ability to succeed in a consultative, team-based sales environment.
  • Resourceful self-starter with the confidence to engage customers proactively.
