Pattern Shop Labor / Helper

Overview

This role involves assisting Pattern Makers in the pattern shop to facilitate smooth operations related to casting production. The position includes supporting the manufacturing, preparation, handling, cleaning, maintenance, and transportation of patterns, core boxes, and associated tools, ensuring adherence to safety, quality, and housekeeping standards.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide assistance to Pattern Makers during wooden pattern fabrication and assembly processes.
• Help prepare pattern boards, core boxes, and other pattern parts.
• Perform basic layout marking and preparation tasks under supervision.
• Support activities related to styrofoam or master pattern development.
• Handle and transport wooden materials, pattern plates, and equipment within the shop.
• Assist with loading and unloading patterns for machining, storage, or shipping purposes.
• Help in mounting and dismounting patterns as needed.
• Support operators in woodworking machine operations such as cutting, drilling, sanding, and finishing.
• Prepare and maintain the tools and materials used in pattern making tasks, including cleanliness maintenance.
• Assist in dimensional inspections and quality checks alongside Pattern Makers.
• Support creation of pattern identification tags and markings.
• Help keep work instructions and pattern shop records up to date.
• Organize pattern storage systematically in designated racks and assist with inventory tracking.
• Ensure proper storage to avoid any damage to patterns.
• Maintain cleanliness and order in the work area while following all safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements.
• Assist in ensuring safe operation of all equipment and working environments in the pattern shop.

Qualifications

• Minimum education: High School diploma or technical training is preferred.
• Experience of 1 to 3 years in workshops, carpentry, pattern shops, or similar manufacturing environments is advantageous.
• Basic knowledge of woodworking tools and materials.
• Ability to follow detailed instructions and support skilled workers effectively.
• Basic English communication skills are preferred.
