About the Role and Company
We are seeking a Packaging Engineer to join a leading global FMCG company known for brands such as Dove, Sure, Persil, and Simple. The role supports the Skin Care brand Simple, which has a strong heritage of producing gentle skincare products since 1960, with global expansion especially focused in Asia. This position is based at a Research & Development facility located in Port Sunlight Village, Wirral, and offers a hybrid work model combining remote and onsite activities.
Job Purpose
The Packaging Engineer will lead the design, development, and implementation of packaging innovations and renovations for Simple’s product portfolio. Focus areas include primary and secondary packaging improvements, sustainability initiatives, and cost-saving projects. The role involves managing multiple projects in partnership with R&D, Brand, Planning, Procurement, Quality, and external suppliers.
Main Responsibilities
- Create and qualify packaging solutions aligned with global project requirements, balancing cost, timing, and consumer expectations.
- Design prototypes for testing and validation of packaging concepts.
- Oversee project management from initial concept through successful implementation ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
- Perform testing and analysis to guarantee packaging quality and compliance with regulations.
- Work collaboratively with suppliers to source materials competitively while emphasizing sustainability.
- Explore and recommend innovative packaging materials and technologies to improve efficiency and eco-friendliness.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to understand product needs and develop appropriate packaging solutions.
- Stay informed on emerging trends and technologies in packaging.
- Maintain packaging specifications and ensure consistency across product lines.
- Coordinate with global cross-functional teams, supply chain, procurement, and third-party partners to ensure smooth project transition.
- Address operational issues relating to supply chain, manufacturing, and procurement to avoid service disruptions.
- Contribute to shaping project methodologies and R&D operational processes, including InnoFlex.
Qualifications and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Packaging or Engineering with 2 to 4 years of relevant experience, ideally within Skin Care or Hair Care sectors.
- Comprehensive knowledge of packaging components including rigid plastics, bottles, closures, and flexible packaging.
- Proven understanding of packaging development procedures and engineering principles.
- Experience working with external packaging suppliers.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational abilities.
- Self-motivated with the capability to work independently and collaboratively with teams.
