Description de l'emploi
About the Role
This position involves shaping the mechanical foundation for cutting-edge AI infrastructure on a global scale, based in Ireland. As a Mechanical Engineer specializing in data centers, you will offer vital engineering expertise throughout data center site acquisition, development phases, and construction preparedness.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical engineering assessments for prospective data center locations, including colocation and custom build projects.
- Perform technical due diligence focusing on cooling capabilities, mechanical systems, equipment viability, and readiness for infrastructure deployment.
- Evaluate various cooling techniques such as liquid cooling, air cooling, hybrid options, chiller plants, and CRAH/CRAC systems specifically tailored for AI and large-scale hyperscale workloads.
- Provide informed technical guidance and contribute to decision-making processes regarding mechanical feasibility, project risks, and operational necessities.
- Develop mechanical assumptions related to capacity planning, budgeting, scheduling, and risk management strategies.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to define cooling system architectures, equipment selection, redundancy planning, and necessary design specifications.
- Review BMS controls integration, oversee commissioning processes, assess equipment availability, and consider supplier limitations.
- Maintain the integrity of mechanical design objectives and technical requirements from acquisition through construction completion.
- Create standards, evaluation models, and repeatable processes to support reliable infrastructure assessments and technical readiness.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders, consulting engineers, suppliers, and commissioning teams to ensure seamless project execution.
Candidate Profile
- A minimum of 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering with focus on data centers, MEP design, or mission-critical environments.
- Expertise in cooling system design, including topologies involving liquid cooling, chiller plants, and CRAH/CRAC units.
- Proven experience conducting mechanical feasibility studies for data center projects prior to investment commitments.
- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical capacity planning, equipment choices, redundancy configurations, and capital expenditure considerations.
- Preferred experience working with hyperscale data center infrastructures, AI-focused facilities, or large-scale technology environments.
- Familiarity with building management systems (BMS) integration and mechanical commissioning protocols.
- Experience in colocation or custom-built data center infrastructure due diligence is advantageous.
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a comparable field, or equivalent work experience.
- Strong communication skills with capability to clearly present complex engineering topics to executives.
- Ability to efficiently handle multiple priorities, work independently, and collaborate effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced setting.
- Possession of professional credentials such as a Professional Engineer (PE) license is beneficial.
Benefits and Work Environment
- Attractive and competitive salary offering.
- Flexible, remote-first work culture providing autonomy and personal ownership over projects.
- Opportunities for career progression and continuous professional development.
- Engagement with impactful projects in large-scale AI infrastructure worldwide.
- Culturally diverse and collaborative international engineering teams.
- Influence in defining standards, procedures, and technical frameworks for future infrastructure ventures.
- An innovative atmosphere grounded in trust, ownership, and meaningful contributions.
