Company Overview
PURVIS Systems delivers technology solutions crucial to government agencies, particularly servicing federal and local entities. We currently seek a Mechanical Designer/Drafter to contribute to mechanical design and drafting for U.S. Navy submarine initiatives.
Role Overview
This position entails developing and revising technical mechanical drawings under senior guidance, conducting inspections aboard Navy vessels, and supporting relevant documentation procedures. It offers a structured growth path enabled by practical experience, education, and performance demonstration.
Primary Duties
- Create 2D and 3D mechanical designs, including system layouts, installation, and arrangement plans.
- Generate and update Lists of Material, analyzing Government Furnished Information to meet project criteria.
- Carry out fundamental electrical distribution assessments, such as voltage drops and balancing loads.
- Perform on-site ship checks on submarines to gather field data and verify system configurations for installation preparation.
- Incorporate redline revisions from supervising staff and perform accuracy reviews on all drawings.
- Engage in design reviews and integrate constructive feedback.
- Collaborate with technical teams to clarify design expectations and task details.
- Travel occasionally to navy locations for inspection and data gathering.
- Work safely in confined environments and ascend vertical ladders of 20-25 feet without assistance.
Qualifications
- Preferred associate degree in mechanical engineering technology or a related manufacturing field.
- Experience ranging from entry-level up to four years in mechanical design or drafting, with educational background considered.
- Knowledge of submarine platforms, shipboard systems, or Navy alteration documentation (TEMPALT, OPALT, SHIPAL).
- Familiarity with military specs or defense contracts is advantageous.
- Understanding of mechanical drafting fundamentals, production processes, and drawing standards.
- Ability to interpret mechanical specifications and technical diagrams accurately.
- Basic familiarity with drafting norms; ASME Y14.3 knowledge is preferred.
- Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD or equivalent 2D drafting applications and Microsoft Office suite.
Additional Requirements
Candidate must qualify for a government secret-level security clearance.
