About the Role
Join Zayed University at the Abu Dhabi main campus as a Learning Disability Specialist within the Student Accessibility Services Department (SAS). This full-time position involves overseeing the department's activities to align with its vision and goals while fostering awareness and acceptance of students facing learning challenges such as dyslexia, dyspraxia, and ADHD among faculty members.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and uphold eligibility standards and protocols for disability accommodations and services.
- Advise faculty and administrative staff on legal obligations regarding students with disabilities and facilitate compliance processes.
- Maintain a confidential registry of students with disabilities.
- Manage caseloads and coordinate support services for students with learning disabilities.
- Collaborate with faculty to ensure educational material is accessible.
- Conduct training sessions and orientations for instructors on the needs of students facing learning difficulties.
- Perform academic evaluations to determine suitable accommodations for affected students.
- Offer academic tutoring, counseling, and guidance on study skills and time management.
- Analyze psycho-educational assessments and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
- Coach students in utilizing effective academic strategies.
- Organize workshops about learning disabilities aimed at faculty and staff professional development.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, or Education.
- Minimum of 4 years experience managing services for individuals with learning disabilities.
- Fluency in both Arabic and English.
- Strong knowledge of UAE Disabilities Law.
- Understanding of developmental issues encountered by university students from diverse cultural backgrounds.
- Expertise in disability assessment, accommodations, related services, and assistive technology.
- Exceptional organizational and administrative capabilities.
