Job description
Job Overview
The City of Mansfield is seeking a Landscape Technician for its Parks department to perform routine landscape maintenance and repair tasks with occasional use of various equipment without direct supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out moderately complex landscape maintenance and repair duties on a scheduled basis independently.
- Operate tools such as mowers, string-trimmers, blowers, and occasionally light machinery like tractors and dump trucks.
- Support fellow landscape technicians in daily tasks including mowing, trimming, edging, litter removal, and restroom cleaning.
- Planting and nurturing trees, shrubs, turf, and flowering plants effectively.
- Manage loading/unloading materials and handling tasks like tamping and leveling surfaces.
- Trim trees, collect brush, and manage brush disposal using trucks.
- Conduct minor mechanical upkeep and construction work including vehicle maintenance, plumbing, irrigation, and concrete installations.
- Participate in weekend rotational trash pickup duties and other assigned functions.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
- Thorough understanding or training in landscape maintenance methods, tools, and equipment.
- Practical knowledge of plant care, soil treatments, irrigation, fertilizers, and pesticides.
- Problem-solving skills and ability to document material usage accurately.
- Capable of operating various landscaping tools such as chainsaws, spreaders, trenchers, and pruning devices.
- Willingness to work outdoors under varied weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
- Physical ability to perform labor-intensive tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, crawling, kneeling, climbing, and working on uneven terrain.
Desired Qualifications
- Additional relevant training or experience in landscaping or related fields.
- Texas Department of Agriculture pesticide applicator license.
- Certified Playground Safety Inspector (CPSI).
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO).
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Extensive physical activity including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fine motor skills, talking, hearing, and repetitive wrist/hand motions.
- Handle heavy lifting occasionally exceeding 100 pounds, frequently over 50 pounds, and consistently over 20 pounds.
- Requires excellent visual acuity including depth perception and color recognition for safe operation of vehicles and equipment.
- Work under various environmental conditions such as exposure to extreme heat, cold, noise, vibration, hazardous materials, and varying atmospheric conditions affecting respiratory and skin health.

Compensation
The salary range for this position is $41,944 to $49,927 annually, corresponding to an hourly wage between $20.16 and $24.00.
