Role Overview
The Item Master Controller will manage the organization's item master data, ensuring all data related to items is accurate, consistent, and reliable. This position focuses on creating and maintaining unique master records for each item to prevent duplications and optimize the purchasing workflow.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate and assign item codes to both existing and newly introduced products and services following pre-established coding logic.
- Conduct routine audits and updates of item codes to reflect product specification changes, manufacturing adjustments, or updates in inventory systems.
- Maintain the item code database meticulously, including product descriptions, units of measure, and all essential attributes.
- Partner with departments such as production, procurement, sales, finance, and quality control to guarantee consistent and precise application of item codes.
- Verify proper linkage between item codes and their correct products or components to avoid errors in production or inventory handling.
- Keep detailed records including change logs, version histories, and performance reports related to item codes.
- Produce analytical reports on item code usage to support management decisions and identify opportunities for improvement.
- Drive process enhancements to improve the efficiency and accuracy of item code management practices.
Required Qualifications and Competencies
- Bachelor’s degree preferably in Mechanical Engineering; applicants with Electrical or Electronics Engineering degrees will also be considered.
- 8 to 10 years of overall professional experience with 6 to 8 years specifically in item master data management.
- Strong expertise in handling item codes, ensuring data accuracy, documentation, and data integrity.
- Practical experience in using ERP systems like SAP MM (Materials Management).
- Understanding of data governance standards and proficiency in data reporting and analytic tools.
- Excellent prioritization skills to meet deadlines in dynamic environments.
- A mindset focused on continuous process improvement.
- Effective communication and collaboration capabilities across multiple departments.
- Critical thinking and robust analytical skills to resolve issues related to data integrity.
