Role Overview

The role of Inspector I - Quality involves detailed inspection and testing activities, specifically focusing on coating, insulation, and refractory aspects within electrical installations and equipment in projects related to oil and gas environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct inspection and testing of temporary electrical installations and camp connections as needed.
• Verify installation of supports before cable trays are installed.
• Inspect cable tray and conduit installations prior to approving them for cable laying.
• Check underground stub ups and cable trench dimensions and sand bedding before cable laying and at each cable layer release.
• Monitor cable jointing and termination processes to ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications.
• Inspect cable arrangements for segregation before backfilling.
• Examine cable glanding, termination, and dressing.
• Observe insulation resistance and continuity testing of cables on drums, after laying, before trench backfilling, and post-termination.
• Witness high potential testing (Hi-pot) of cables.
• Inspect final torquing for cable terminations and installation of cable tray covers.
• Supervise equipment installation at substations ensuring adherence to manufacturers' guidelines.
• Monitor preservation measures for switchgears, transformers, bus ducts, and other related equipment.
• Inspect switchgear installations focusing on alignment and placement.
• Witness torquing of bus bar joints, perform doctor tests, insulation resistance (IR) tests, and Hi-pot tests where applicable.
• Witness various electrical tests on switchgears including insulation resistance, Hi-pot, ductor, operational tests.
• Observe transformer oil dielectric testing and insulation resistance tests.
• Perform final inspections of transformers, switchgears, MCCs, and other equipment.
• Inspect installation and testing (including torquing, ductor, IR) of bus ducts.
• Inspect batteries, chargers, and UPS units, including witnessing battery charging and discharging tests when applicable.
• Inspect underground earth cable installations, including cad weld joints before trench backfilling.
• Verify installation of earth electrodes and earthing systems.
• Witness earth resistance tests of electrodes and earthing networks, including earth loop resistance and continuity tests.
• Inspect lightning protection systems for each building.
• Conduct final inspections of earthing systems.
• Inspect placement of light fixtures, sockets, junction boxes for appropriateness according to type and application.
• Inspect site-routed lighting cable tray installations and approve for cable laying.
• Verify installation and testing of distribution boards, including insulation resistance tests.
• Witness insulation resistance, continuity, functional, and illumination level tests of lighting circuits where applicable.
• Monitor preservation activities for motors, inspect installations including glanding, termination, and earthing; witness applicable tests like insulation resistance and polarization index.
• Inspect local control stations installation and witness functional tests to substations where relevant.
• Witness motor solo run tests (duration varies by motor voltage rating).
• Inspect thermite welding on underground pipes and witness continuity testing of cables.
• Inspect installation of temporary magnesium anode, reference electrodes, anode ribbons, and crossings.
• Witness cathodic protection system inspections and testing before and after backfilling.
• Verify installation of cathodic protection transformers/rectifiers.
• Inspect heat tracing circuit installations and witness testing prior to insulation and after cladding.
• Observe inspection and testing of equipment such as diesel generators and HVAC systems.
• Witness inspection and testing related to overhead power distribution and transmission lines.
• Conduct detailed inspections of certified electrical equipment per IEC 60079 standards, ensuring proper label interpretation and confirmation of IP ratings.

Required Qualifications and Experience

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent qualification.
• A minimum of 10 years of experience working as an Electrical Quality Control Inspector.
• Professional experience in the oil and gas or petrochemical industry is mandatory.
• Previous employment with major EPC contractors or their sub-contractors is preferred.
• Specialized training or documented practical experience in hazardous area electrical inspections aligned with IEC 60079-17 and IEC 60079-14 standards is required. In the absence of formal training, candidates must complete in-house training prior to undertaking Ex-Inspections.
