Position Overview
The City of Kodiak is seeking a dedicated Harbor Officer to join its Harbor Department on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the engaged team to ensure the community's maritime facilities operate safely and efficiently.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Monitoring all harbor, port, and shipyard areas by on-foot patrols, vehicle rounds, and watercraft navigation.
- Maintaining accurate counts of vessels present in the facilities.
- Performing regular upkeep and maintenance tasks to preserve facility conditions.
- Establishing and overseeing restricted zones, particularly for federally protected vessels, ensuring security.
- Securing boats docked at piers safely.
- Operating a variety of light machinery and vehicles as part of daily operations.
- Enforcing harbor regulations through issuing verbal warnings or citations when necessary.
- Operating harbor vessels for emergency interventions, including assisting disabled vessels, firefighting, and search efforts for missing persons.

Minimum Qualifications
- Possession of a high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certificate.
- At least one year of general work experience, or an equivalent blend of education and/or experience.
