About the Role
Are you passionate about addressing practical scientific and engineering problems with precision? Do you want to help transition revolutionary battery technology from research labs to commercial markets within a dynamic, collaborative company? SuperDielectrics is recruiting a Graduate Scientist and a Graduate Engineer to join our Graduate Development Programme focused on breakthrough battery solutions.
From day one, you'll collaborate with seasoned scientists and engineers tackling realistic technical challenges. Our rotational program provides experience across the product lifecycle and fosters a deep understanding of our innovative water-based battery products and technology.
Our Technology
SuperDielectrics pioneers a novel battery platform tailored for the high-power electrification markets of the future. Our water-based batteries achieve top-tier performance by using a unique polymer separator combined with zinc halide electroactive materials and carbon-based porous electrodes. The company integrates product development fully, from advanced materials to cells, modules, packs, and in-house battery management systems. This structure offers a rare chance to gain interdisciplinary scientific and engineering experience.
Graduate Scientist Role
- Prepare materials used in electrochemical cells.
- Assemble laboratory-scale cells and prototype units.
- Conduct electrochemical tests and analyze performance data.
- Support experimental design and refine laboratory procedures.
- Maintain rigorous quality standards and comprehensive technical documentation.
This position suits graduates who enjoy hands-on research, experimental science, and translating science into practical technology.
Graduate Engineer Role
- Design mechanical components and fixtures for batteries.
- Assemble cells, modules, and battery packs.
- Build, test, and evaluate prototypes.
- Support process development and scale-up toward manufacturing.
- Identify improvements in manufacturing, assembly, and product efficiency.
Ideal for graduates interested in practical engineering, product design, and developing reliable processes to enable technology commercialization.
Graduate Development Programme Details
Participants will rotate across multiple product development teams, gaining expertise in:
- Advanced materials preparation and polymer membrane production.
- Electrochemical cell design, assembly, and testing.
- Mechanical design with module and pack integration.
- Manufacturing process development and scale-up methods.
- Battery modeling, data analysis, and performance evaluation.
You'll collaborate with experts from diverse scientific and engineering disciplines, building technical skills and business acumen within a rapidly growing tech environment. Reporting to the Head of Technical Operations, you will be a key member of a cross-functional team driving innovation toward market readiness.
Candidate Profile
- Curious and practical graduates eager to solve applied scientific and engineering challenges.
- Enthusiastic learners comfortable in hands-on settings.
- Motivated to contribute to emerging technologies.
- Degree holders or soon-to-be graduates in Materials Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or related STEM areas.
- Hands-on practical experience from projects, internships, placements, or laboratory settings.
- Strong analytical, experimental, and problem-solving abilities.
- Detail-oriented with a systematic work approach.
- Confident working independently and collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.
- Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for data management and analysis; programming skills in Python or similar languages are advantageous.
Additional knowledge in polymer chemistry, electrochemistry, battery tech, CAD tools, machining, or laboratory quality control is a plus but not mandatory. We're searching for candidates with initiative, curiosity, and the ability to learn quickly.
Why Join SuperDielectrics?
This is a compelling opportunity to join at a crucial phase of growth. You will actively address real engineering and scientific problems while collaborating with experts across polymer chemistry, battery materials, electrochemistry, electronics, and product engineering. Unlike typical graduate schemes, you will engage in substantial technical work immediately, gaining extensive cross-disciplinary exposure and contributing to sustainable energy storage innovation.
