Role overview
This contract position is a remote opportunity for a geospatial professional who can support the development of next-generation AI systems with strong domain expertise. The focus is on delivering accurate, practical input drawn from real-world spatial analysis experience. Prior AI experience is not necessary; the key requirement is hands-on knowledge in geospatial work.
Core responsibilities
- Create, organize, and support spatial databases while keeping records accurate and consistent across projects.
- Carry out advanced geoprocessing and spatial modeling in QGIS, then turn the results into clear, usable insights.
- Build, adapt, and support QGIS plugins and extensions based on project needs.
- Use Python, especially PyQGIS, to streamline geospatial workflows and improve repeatability and efficiency.
- Produce polished maps and visual outputs for reports, presentations, and analytical decision-making.
- Work with cross-functional teammates to interpret requirements and translate them into geospatial solutions.
- Explain technical geospatial topics clearly in writing and speaking for both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required qualifications
- Strong practical command of QGIS, including spatial database work, geoprocessing, and map creation.
- Solid Python skills with experience automating QGIS tasks using PyQGIS.
- Good understanding of projections, coordinate reference systems, and spatial data transformation.
- Ability to customize QGIS through plugin creation or scripting.
- Excellent communication skills for both specialist and non-specialist audiences.
- Ability to create professional cartographic deliverables for different decision-making needs.
- Well-developed organization and attention to detail when balancing multiple priorities.
Preferred background
Experience in remote or distributed teams serving external clients is an advantage. Familiarity with other open-source GIS software or cloud-based geospatial platforms is also beneficial. A background in spatial analysis for fields such as environmental science, urban planning, or resource management would be a plus.
