Position Overview

The General Manager role reports to the Executive Vice President and is accountable for overseeing daily operations. This position is responsible for surpassing all financial and operational objectives, ensuring client satisfaction, fostering employee development, and cultivating a positive workplace culture.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support the Chef Manager and staff in menu development, cost controls, food preparation, and presentation.
  • Manage cafe operations as an owner, assuring the quality and standards of all food products.
  • Oversee catering services, providing assistance when needed including food production for grab-and-go, desserts, breakfast, lunch specials, and executive catering.
  • Maintain vendor and client relationships.
  • Supervise supplies, equipment, and work areas, coordinating equipment purchases and repairs.
  • Collaborate with the Chef on ordering food and other required supplies.
  • Plan production schedules and staffing needs, including recruitment to guarantee timely service delivery.
  • Manage payroll processing and financials related to the unit.
  • Promote teamwork by participating in kitchen and cafe maintenance tasks alongside staff.
  • Ensure compliance with safety procedures, food handling standards, sanitation, uniform policies, and productivity benchmarks.
  • Control department expenses and adhere to budgetary requirements.
  • Generate financial reports and conduct profit and loss analyses.
  • Forecast operations and oversee all unit accounting activities.
  • Manage inventory and update pricing according to market fluctuations.
  • Direct and evaluate all direct and indirect team members to foster engagement and professional growth.
  • Motivate employees through ongoing communication, training, and mentorship.
  • Demonstrate excellent customer service by being approachable and attentive, welcoming and engaging with customers directly.

Qualifications and Certifications

  • Bachelor's degree, culinary school certificate, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5 to 7 years of experience as a General Manager in a senior living environment.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • ServSafe Certification.
  • Choke Safety Certification.
  • Allergen Awareness Certification (Massachusetts specific).

Employment Details

  • Full-time position.
  • Work remotely with residency required in Maryland, Delaware, Virginia, West Virginia, or Washington D.C.
