Operating hostels and hybrid accommodations across Australia and New Zealand, along with food and beverage outlets, Drifter creates unique venues that leave lasting impressions. The newest property opening in Wellington represents a significant opportunity to lead from inception.
Role Summary
The General Manager will oversee the entire Wellington property, working closely with the Regional General Manager to establish operational foundations prior to launch. This leadership position involves managing multiple departments including Hosting, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, and Maintenance, each headed by department leaders reporting to you. Key responsibilities encompass ensuring excellent guest experiences, nurturing team culture, maintaining financial health, satisfying compliance standards, and orchestrating daily operations.
Daily Responsibilities
- Engage regularly with team members and stay informed about on-site activities.
- Maintain high guest satisfaction by proactively addressing concerns.
- Support department heads to ensure smooth workflows.
- Handle multiple tasks and priorities efficiently without complexity.
- Monitor labor costs, revenue, and expenses as integrated daily practices.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses within operations and implement improvements.
- Address small issues promptly to prevent escalation.
- Ensure coordination across teams to avoid operational silos.
- Oversee property maintenance and resolve facility issues swiftly.
- Implement structured processes that facilitate efficiency without hindering staff agility.
Qualifications and Experience
- Several years in a senior hospitality leadership role managing multi-department operations.
- Proven experience leading leaders, beyond direct team management.
- In-depth understanding of hotel or hostel operations, including yield management and profitability drivers.
- Strong skills in rostering, labor management, and cost control.
- Pragmatic and composed problem-solving abilities.
- Capability to build and sustain a motivated and engaged team.
- Knowledge and experience in Food & Beverage management, especially with standalone bars, restaurants, or large venues.
- Familiarity with the Wellington accommodation market is advantageous but not mandatory.
Additional Information
This position involves direct involvement in pre-opening activities planned for a late September to early October start, providing time to develop operational structures and team dynamics before the venue opens.
