Role Summary
We are looking for a meticulous and driven General Ledger Accountant to join the Finance Team in Munich. This role requires managing German legal entity accounting operations including bookkeeping, reconciliations, payroll, and statutory compliance. You will be responsible for preparing monthly and annual closings under US GAAP and HGB, ensuring precision in financial reports, and collaborating closely with internal stakeholders and auditors. Your efforts will also support ongoing process improvements, system configuration maintenance, compliance monitoring, and finance projects.
Primary Responsibilities
- Handle comprehensive accounting functions for German entities such as bookkeeping, payroll, tax filings, and statutory accounting tasks.
- Lead preparation and support of closing activities monthly and annually aligned with US GAAP and HGB standards.
- Verify correctness of financial postings, reports, and account reconciliations.
- Liaise with cross-functional teams, finance business partners, and auditing personnel on accounting issues.
- Promote enhancement, automation, and consistency in accounting and reporting workflows.
- Manage configuration settings for accounting systems and aid in testing system changes related to accounting.
- Ensure adherence to corporate policies and local legal requirements.
- Assist with balance sheet analyses, digital archiving protocols, and participate in cross-departmental finance initiatives.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline; certifications such as CPA, CMA, or CFA are advantageous.
- Minimum five years of accounting experience, ideally in the automotive or manufacturing sector.
- Familiarity with US GAAP and German HGB accounting principles; knowledge of IFRS is beneficial.
- Technical knowledge of SAP and DATEV systems preferred.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office suite.
- Strong communication skills in both written and spoken English and German (minimum level B2).
- Capable of working independently with a high level of motivation, even under pressure.
- Results-driven with outstanding planning, organizational, and prioritization capabilities.
