Role Overview

This role involves building Labrynth's upcoming product: a private, invite-only Business-to-Consumer platform supporting personal and team accounts. This greenfield project runs alongside the existing patent and intellectual property application.

You will serve as the Front End Engineer responsible for the end-to-end user experience of the client-facing B2C platform, covering invited account onboarding, membership management, a guided exploration system based on the workspace/exploration/idea/draft model, and a persistent progress interface. All development is performed using the generated Backend-For-Frontend (BFF) client, designed to operate flawlessly during live demonstrations to prospects and partners.

Contract Details and Collaboration

This position is a contract role (agency/statement of work) lasting initially 60–90 days with an option to extend. Reporting is to the Patent Project engineering lead, with close collaboration among Backend, DevOps/Platform, Security, Product Design, and QA teams.

Architecture Notes

Authentication is managed by Amazon Cognito (supporting email/password and Google federation with PKCE). Customer sessions are secured with opaque, HttpOnly, and Secure cookies issued by the BFF. The TypeScript BFF is central as the only authorization, capability, entitlement, and domain mutation layer; the frontend is purely a presentation layer using generated OpenAPI clients for all server interactions.

Frontend architecture avoids direct database or credential handling; private data resides in PostgreSQL and S3, while the Neo4j graph contains only public patent data. Payment functionality is disabled during closed beta, with entitlements governed by a capability matrix.

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate the generated BFF client by handling OpenAPI contracts, including managing success/error responses, request IDs, idempotency keys, concurrency controls via If-Match headers, and UI states such as loading or permissions.
• Implement invited sign-in workflows linked with Cognito sessions and protected routes, supporting account context switching in staging environments.
• Develop a guided exploration entry point coordinating with agents and public data sources, managing operation lifecycle with resumable server-sent events.
• Audit UX and codebase for correctness, efficiency, and adherence to the design system; deliver prioritized remediation plans.
• Deliver onboarding experiences covering invitation acceptance, workspace setup, file uploads with quarantine status tracking, and Terms of Service/legal agreement acceptance.
• Build account and membership UX for personal and team accounts with capability-based policies and controlled membership state transitions.
• Design the guided exploration feature showing exploration relations and operation state progressions while avoiding raw model outputs.
• Implement durable operation progress monitoring via fetch-based resumable SSE with cursor-polling fallback and resynchronization strategies.
• Create public-facing graph and analysis dashboards visualizing claims, novelty, and clusters from public patent data.
• Develop beta billing UI integrating Stripe test-mode for plan selection and entitlement visibility without charging.
• Ensure performance goals aligned with Core Web Vitals, responsive and accessible UI, consistent state handling, and high test coverage with clean handover documentation.

Exclusions

• No direct database or backend service access; all communication must be through the BFF.
• No responsibility for implementing authorization or entitlement policies managed by backend teams.
• No private data display in public graph interfaces.
• No involvement with legacy authentication or account models.

Required Qualifications

• Extensive React and Next.js expertise, including containerized App Router usage, server components, routing, and server-side rendering connected only to internal APIs.
• Experience consuming generated OpenAPI clients in TypeScript monorepos, managing idempotency keys, concurrency controls, and operation polling with the BFF contract as the source of truth.
• Skill developing streaming user interfaces using fetch-based resumable SSE with reconnect capabilities and fallbacks.
• Capability handling identity-aware interfaces backed by Cognito and secure sessions with protected route management.
• Proficiency developing complex dashboards and visualizations over large public data sets including claims, citations, clusters, and validations.
• Strong Tailwind CSS skills and a design-system-driven approach to building component-based UI reflecting semantic tokens and brand colors.
• Deep knowledge of web performance optimization including Core Web Vitals, bundle size management, and accessibility best practices.
• Availability to align work hours with US and Australian teams for synchronous collaboration and incident management.

Preferred Skills

• Background with graph visualization libraries for large networks.
• Experience in building intuitive onboarding flows incorporating file upload quarantine states and legal acceptance processes.
• Knowledge of managing virtualization and rendering for large data sets.

Compensation and Equity

Labrynth follows a fair and competitive pay structure, reflecting market rates, individual experience, skills, geographic location, and internal equity. Hourly rates are determined during recruitment based on these factors. Contractors outside the United States will receive compensation adjusted for local conditions and cost of living.
