About the Company

Malama Health combines cutting-edge technology and dedicated professionals to deliver outstanding care through innovative biometric tracking and patient engagement tools. Their aim is to empower Care Managers in providing personalized care navigation for pregnant and postpartum mothers, improving health outcomes for both mother and child. Having secured $9.2M in funding, the company is poised to achieve profitability this year and focuses on enhancing pregnancy-related outcomes, especially for historically underserved populations.

Position Overview

Malama Health seeks a proactive and detail-focused HR expert responsible for managing HR functions across multiple entities, including a Delaware C Corp MSO and two affiliated medical practices. This role demands ownership of payroll accuracy, benefits management, compliance with regulations, and system administration. The ideal candidate is an experienced HR professional capable of independently driving processes while navigating complex multi-entity structures and state compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as administrator for HR/payroll platform (Rippling) across all entities, managing user access and evaluating additional services.
  • Configure and adjust payroll deductions to ensure proper tax handling.
  • Collaborate with vendors to process payroll accurately.
  • Oversee employee health benefits including eligibility, enrollments, and stipend options through platforms like SimplyInsured.
  • Ensure correct integration between payroll and benefits systems to handle contributions across entities with diverse structures.
  • Manage multi-state registrations (e.g., SUI, EDD) as new state hires occur.
  • Address compliance concerns and claims (disability, unemployment), coordinating with legal counsel and external vendors.
  • Maintain thorough records of logins, filings, and all relevant documentation.
  • Partner with outside legal and tax professionals on employment compliance.
  • Educate managers and staff on hourly reporting, break compliance, and wage laws.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to formalize hour-reporting deadlines and minimize off-cycle payroll runs.
  • Facilitate adoption of expense reimbursement procedures.
  • Maintain employee documentation such as files, contracts, and offer letters (W-2 and 1099).
  • Manage a dedicated HR inbox, especially for state agency communications.
  • Engage in daily team communication channels to address people-related needs.
  • Coordinate payroll cycles with finance and operations partners.

Required Qualifications

  • At least 5 years' experience in HR or People Operations, including payroll management and multi-state compliance.
  • Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and drive tasks to completion amid ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate cross-functionally with founders, finance, and legal teams.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to establishing robust, repeatable processes.

Preferred Attributes

  • Experience using Rippling or similar HRIS/payroll software.
  • Familiarity with MSO/PC organizational structure.
  • Alignment with healthcare mission or experience in healthcare sector.

Compensation and Work Schedule

  • Hourly pay ranging from $80 to $120 based on experience.
  • Part-time fractional role, approximately 10-20 hours weekly, with possibility of transitioning to full-time.
  • Fully remote position within the US with flexible work hours.
  • A culture that fosters a supportive and mission-driven environment.

Equal Opportunity Statement
