Role Overview
The Financial Controller will be responsible for managing the entire accounting function across multiple entities and countries. Reporting to the CFO, this position supports the company’s rapid expansion by leading compliance and operational finance tasks, freeing strategic teams to focus on growth initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all financial accounting activities, including revenue recognition, month-end and year-end closing, and consolidated reporting for all Partly entities.
- Ensure compliance with tax and statutory regulations across New Zealand, the UK, and other jurisdictions as the company expands, coordinating with external advisors proactively.
- Manage payroll, supplier payments, billing processes, and treasury operations, maintaining and developing appropriate treasury policies.
- Evaluate current finance tools and systems, identify gaps, and implement scalable finance infrastructure aligned with company growth objectives, including ERP system assessment and future implementation.
- Lead and mentor the finance team to maintain high standards and consistent performance.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with billing teams, auditors, and tax consultants to ensure seamless financial operations.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Certified Chartered Accountant (CA) or an equivalent professional qualification, capable of managing complex multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction accounting responsibilities.
- Proven experience holding a Financial Controller position, fully versed in foundational accounting principles and advanced financial management.
- Expertise in handling multi-jurisdictional financial matters including transfer pricing, intercompany transactions, and foreign currency reporting.
- Robust knowledge of technical accounting concepts such as revenue recognition, statutory compliance, payroll, and accounts payable/receivable, with the judgment to decide when to involve external advisors.
- Background in fast-growth companies, particularly in scale-ups or startups, with a successful track record of managing both business-as-usual and system improvements.
- Preferably, early career experience at a Big 4 or mid-tier professional services firm, especially in audit roles.
- Bonus qualifications include experience in ERP system selection or implementation.
