Role Overview
We are seeking a skilled Estimator to join a leading construction firm in Ireland, based in Cork with additional positions in Dublin. This role offers the chance to contribute significantly to major commercial, residential, healthcare, education, and mixed-use construction projects across Ireland. The Estimator will be integral in developing competitive tenders in collaboration with a commercial team and senior leadership to secure large-scale contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate detailed cost estimates, measurement take-offs, and Bills of Quantities from drawings and tender documents.
- Analyze drawings, specifications, and contracts to uncover commercial risks and opportunities.
- Request and assess quotations from subcontractors and suppliers to ensure competitive pricing.
- Create pricing schedules, thorough tender submissions, and cost breakdowns.
- Liaise with design, commercial, and operations teams to resolve technical questions and confirm pricing assumptions.
- Drive value engineering initiatives and identify innovative, cost-saving construction methods.
- Maintain estimating databases, historical cost data, and tender records accurately.
- Take part in tender review sessions and contribute to bidding strategy formation.
- Ensure all estimating documents are well organized and archived within the company’s document management system.
- Support risk analysis, contingency planning, and commercial evaluation during tenders.
Candidate Profile
- Background as an Estimator in main contracting, specialist contracting, or construction consultancy environments.
- Comprehensive understanding of construction techniques, materials, pricing, and procurement processes.
- Proficient in preparing detailed estimates, quantity take-offs, and comprehensive tender documents.
- Strong commercial insight paired with analytical capabilities.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with estimating software tools.
- Highly organized with the capacity to handle multiple tender deadlines effectively.
- Confident communicator able to engage with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal teams.
