Role overview

Alberta Health Services is seeking a reliable and self-driven person to join its Environmental Services team in a healthcare cleaning role. The position focuses on safe, high-standard cleaning and disinfection work in patient rooms, clinical spaces, offices, and shared staff/public areas, with training provided by AHS.

What you'll do

You will help maintain clean and sanitary healthcare spaces across both clinical and non-clinical areas in a hospital or care facility. The job involves routine housekeeping tasks as well as using cleaning methods and equipment suited to healthcare environments.

• Sweep, mop, and vacuum floors.
• Replenish bathroom supplies and other consumables.
• Remove linens, change beds, and prepare them again.
• Use industrial floor-cleaning equipment for maintenance and restoration.
• Clean ceilings and windows thoroughly.
• Dispose of hazardous waste following safety practices.
• Restock cleaning materials and linens as needed.
• Notice possible hazards and report them to the Working Leader.
• May assist with training or orientation for Environmental or Laundry staff.

Work schedule and assignment details

This is a temporary full-time position at the Olds Hospital and Care Centre in Olds, Alberta. The role is classified as Environmental Services under the AUPE GSS Unit. The FTE is 1.00, with a 2-week rotation consisting of 10 shifts. Each shift is 7.75 hours long, and the pattern may include days, evenings, and weekends. Days off follow the rotation. The temporary assignment is available from 10-AUG-2026 until 28-FEB-2027. The posting end date is 15-JUL-2026. No vehicle is required for the role.

Qualifications

Applicants need at least Grade 10 or an equivalent level of education. Comfort using computers and smartphones is required. The work involves standing and walking for long periods and repeating the same movements throughout the shift. Candidates must also be able to lift up to 25 lbs and push or pull up to 50 lbs of force.

Preferred background

Prior cleaning experience is preferred. Experience working in a healthcare setting is considered an advantage.
