About the Role

The Canadian Press is seeking a knowledgeable and passionate Entertainment Reporter to join its Arts-Life bureau in Toronto, ON. This full-time position involves covering various aspects of pop culture, including music, film, and television, crafting diverse journalism from lively profiles and issue-driven features to concise news briefs and live event coverage such as awards ceremonies.

Key Responsibilities

• Produce, edit, and compile multimedia content across multiple platforms including print, digital, broadcast, and video services.
• Rapidly and accurately report breaking news, especially related to awards shows and key announcements.
• Keep abreast of developments in the Canadian arts scene by monitoring news sources, social media channels, and maintaining an active network of contacts.
• Develop and sustain a broad and diverse network of sources across the arts community, public relations, and entertainment sectors.
• Propose daily news briefs, feature articles, and video content opportunities.
• Create captivating profiles and in-depth features designed to attract and engage readers.
• Efficiently manage time to balance feature writing with urgent news assignments.

Qualifications and Experience

• A minimum of five years’ experience working in a newsroom environment.
• Proficient in reporting across varied media channels including video, broadcast, print, and online formats.
• Possesses sharp news judgment paired with a strong dedication to accuracy and fairness.
• Self-driven and capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
• Demonstrated ability to both report and edit autonomously.
• Competent in working efficiently under tight deadlines.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Familiarity with The Canadian Press Style Book and Caps and Spelling guidelines.
• Proven history of incorporating diverse perspectives into reporting.
• Availability for shift work and occasional travel as required.

Additional Information

This position reports directly to the Arts-Life bureau chief. The base salary range is between 55377 and 89254 Canadian dollars annually, with actual placement influenced by experience, skills, and role fit.
