Role Overview
We are currently seeking a Mechanical Engineer in Research & Development to join our headquarters in Ang Mo Kio, Singapore. This role requires designing and developing mechanical components and electro-mechanical subsystems, focusing on innovative and cost-effective product solutions to meet rigorous performance and manufacturing criteria.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual and detailed mechanical designs for components, electro-mechanical assemblies, transmission systems, and fluidic/pneumatic mechanisms.
- Conduct thorough engineering analyses including structural evaluation, thermal management, fluidics, and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) to validate and optimize designs with respect to performance, schedule, and cost.
- Oversee fabrication, assembly, and testing of prototypes to ensure compliance with technical specifications.
- Utilize Design for Six Sigma (DFSS) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) principles to enhance production efficiency and reduce costs.
- Produce detailed technical documentation, including specifications, validation plans, Bills of Materials (BOM), and engineering drawings.
- Lead technical discussions with customers, provide innovative engineering solutions, and contribute expert guidance to improve manufacturability and cost-effectiveness.
- Collaborate closely with internal manufacturing teams and external suppliers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Serve as a technical liaison with clients by providing clear updates on product status, design changes, and engineering adjustments, securing necessary approvals.
- Support leadership in developing technology roadmaps aligned with strategic business goals and market trends.
- Perform additional engineering duties as needed to support operational objectives.
Essential Qualifications & Skills
- Master's or Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Mechatronics Engineering.
- 3 to 5 years of experience in research and development, particularly in new product creation.
- Proficiency in CAD software, specifically SolidWorks.
- Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as injection molding, die-casting, precision machining, surface coating/finishing, and inspection methods.
- Experience in product design and robust electro-mechanical system development.
- Skills in designing plastic molding components, sheet metal stamping, machining, and extrusion processes.
- Knowledgeable in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and conducting Tolerance Stack-up Analysis.
- Experience with simulation tools, mechanical finite element analysis (FEA), and programming capabilities (e.g., Python) are advantageous.
- Background in lab automation equipment, including motion control, fluidic pumps, valves, or packaging design is beneficial.
- Understanding of medical product compliance standards such as ISO13485 is a plus.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Self-motivated team player capable of working effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
- Willingness and availability for occasional international travel.
- Ability to independently perform DFMEA, DOE, and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) reporting.
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, including preparing presentation materials.
