About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Construction Manager specialized in substation works for a major Oil & Gas project located at the project site in Qatar. The role involves leading and supervising the execution and delivery of electrical substation construction within the oil and gas sector, ensuring adherence to project timelines, safety standards, and quality benchmarks.
Key Responsibilities
- Direct all electrical construction operations related to substation activities including GIS/AIS equipment, transformers, cabling, and protection systems.
- Manage installation, testing, and commissioning processes for high-voltage electrical apparatus (132 kV / 220 kV as relevant).
- Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and construction teams to facilitate seamless project execution.
- Oversee interdisciplinary integration with civil, mechanical, E&I, telecom, and MEP systems.
- Maintain compliance with project specifications, international regulatory standards, and client requirements.
- Supervise subcontractors, vendors, and onsite workforce to enhance productivity and maintain quality standards.
- Track construction progress against schedules and implement corrective actions when necessary.
- Enforce strict adherence to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) policies promoting a safety-centric culture.
- Evaluate and approve technical documentation including method statements, inspection test plans (ITPs), requests for information (RFIs), and technical queries.
- Liaise with clients, consultants, and stakeholders to facilitate inspections and approvals.
- Manage site logistics, material handling, and safeguard electrical equipment onsite.
- Assist in pre-commissioning and commissioning activities ensuring readiness for energization.
- Identify and mitigate risks, resolve technical challenges, and offer practical field solutions.
Qualifications & Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering.
- At least 15 years of extensive experience in electrical construction with a focus on oil and gas projects.
- Proven expertise in substation construction involving GIS/AIS technologies and high-voltage systems.
- In-depth understanding of integrating MEP systems within industrial project environments.
- Familiarity with international standards such as IEC, IEEE, NFPA, and utility regulatory requirements.
- Experience dealing with brownfield projects and managing interfaces with live plants is highly desirable.
- Strong leadership, effective communication, and team management capabilities.
- Competent in overseeing multiple contractors and complex onsite operations.
- Proficiency in project planning, monitoring, reporting, and coordination tools.
Preferred Experience
- Background in major oil & gas facilities including LNG, NGL, refineries, and petrochemical plants.
- Exposure to client standards from organizations such as QatarEnergy, ADNOC, Aramco, or their equivalents.
- Hands-on practice in substation commissioning and energization processes.
- Experience managing interfaces with utility providers and electrical grid connections.
