Position Summary

This role encompasses oversight of inventory management using computerized systems and physical handling of stock within the facility. The primary aim is to maintain correct stock levels and placements to meet daily distribution needs, minimizing excess inventory. Responsibilities also include standard warehouse activities like receiving, sorting, put-away, order picking, and shipping with a focus on food products. Regular operation of powered equipment like forklifts and power carts is required alongside data system usage to help allocate donated goods to community service agencies.

Key Job Responsibilities

• Manage inventory reconciliation by ensuring recorded data corresponds accurately with physical counts in designated zones.
• Maintain adequate stock levels for warehouse items and maintenance supplies, identifying shortages and space constraints through audits.
• Utilize Warehouse and Inventory Management Systems for daily operational recording and processing.
• Keep precise, up-to-date inventory records, including transfers and cycle counts.
• Monitor accuracy and processing of defective item returns to support quality control activities.
• Handle put-away tasks, inventory replenishment, and physical/systemic movement of stock.
• Supervise raw material intake into production and confirm finished goods quantities arriving from production to storage.
• Account for and report waste in receiving, warehousing, and production areas, updating management for audit purposes.
• Complete and submit required documentation promptly.
• Enforce First-Expired-First-Out (FEFO) and First-In-First-Out (FIFO) principles ensuring adherence to Best Before and expiration dates.
• Process daily order instructions to facilitate order picking and shipment.
• Operate power equipment to execute warehouse tasks safely and effectively.
• Maintain a tidy and organized workplace environment.
• Follow organizational policies, health and safety standards, including use of personal protective equipment and uniform cleanliness.
• Communicate feedback or concerns about goods or services from partners and suppliers promptly to management.
• Work in compliance with regulatory requirements and safety guidelines such as WSIB, CVOR, WHMIS, and related policies.
• Handle material responsibilities such as inventory checks, counts, and replenishment.
• Operate and inspect specialized equipment used in sorting, transporting, storing, and pallet building.
• Perform additional assigned duties professionally, reflecting The Salvation Army’s mission and values.

Working Environment

• This is a permanent full-time position based primarily in a warehouse setting.
• Work involves exposure to waste handling, repetitive tasks, and various odors.
• Tasks may require occasional work in cold storage areas like freezers and refrigerators.
• Physical activity may include lifting or moving weights over 39 pounds, though most items typically weigh less.

Education and Experience Required

• Completion of a post-secondary program of at least one academic year in a related field is required.
• Possession of a valid Forklift Operator's Certificate is mandatory.
• A minimum of two years of warehouse and inventory management experience is necessary.
• Competency with computers and office technology, plus familiarity with WHMIS and inventory management software.

Skills and Abilities

• Strong attention to detail and adherence to policies, legislation, and procedural guidelines.
• Capability to lift safely up to 39 pounds.
• Self-motivated, dependable, and confident worker.
• Effective team player with ability to work independently.
• Valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driver’s abstract are required.
• Good organizational and verbal/written communication skills.
• Flexibility to adjust work hours during peak or seasonal demand periods.
• Ability to prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously with professionalism.
• Commitment to ethical standards and the ability to work diplomatically and tactfully.

Additional Information

• Successful completion of background and screening checks as required by The Salvation Army.
• Location: Vancouver Island Distribution Centre, Victoria BC.
• Compensation: Salary ranges from $24.47 to $30.59 per hour, with a maximum of $36.71 per hour, placement depending on experience and qualifications.
