About the Role

The Director, Shipping & Logistics at Emirates Steel in Abu Dhabi leads comprehensive shipping and logistics operations to ensure the safe, compliant, timely, and cost-effective transport of raw materials and finished products across domestic and international markets. The role entails crafting logistics strategies, managing transportation, overseeing port and vessel functions, guaranteeing trade compliance, optimizing costs, and promoting operational excellence. Collaboration with various internal departments and external partners is essential to maintain seamless plant operations, deliver exceptional customer service, and execute profitable logistics.

Key Responsibilities

Formulate and implement the shipping and logistics strategy aligned with the company's objectives.
Design a robust logistics operating model for both domestic and export activities.
Drive continuous improvements to elevate service quality while lowering logistics expenses.
Maintain uninterrupted supply of raw materials and efficient dispatch of finished goods.
Optimize yard management, dispatch scheduling, and transport capacity.
Develop transportation sourcing and contractual agreements, negotiating with carriers and logistics providers.
Monitor freight costs, transport efficiency, and market competitiveness; support chartering activities while reducing demurrage and delays.
Supervise loading, dispatch, port coordination, and vessel operations, managing relationships with port authorities and agents.
Enhance loading productivity and minimize cargo damage, detention, and operational disruptions.
Ensure accuracy in export and shipping documentation, maintaining full compliance with customs and trade regulations.
Establish governance frameworks, reporting, and end-to-end shipment visibility through KPI dashboards.
Engage in sales and operations planning, aligning logistics with production and customer commitments.
Manage the Shipping & Logistics budget and deliver cost savings via optimization efforts.
Handle cargo claims, insurance recoveries, and oversee service provider performance.
Build and nurture a high-performing logistics team with a focus on succession planning, capability enhancement, and Emiratization.
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with health, safety, environmental, customs, regulatory, and contractual obligations.
Lead logistics business continuity initiatives during disruptions and emergencies.

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering, or related fields.
Postgraduate qualifications or relevant professional certifications are advantageous.
At least 12 years of experience in shipping, logistics, transportation, freight, or industrial supply chain management.
Strong expertise in steel, metals, heavy industries, or similarly complex manufacturing settings.
Comprehensive experience handling domestic transportation, export logistics, port operations, customs, trade compliance, shipping documentation, and managing logistics service providers.
Demonstrated leadership skills managing extensive cross-functional logistics operations.

Work Environment

Compliance with all health, safety, and personal protective equipment regulations is mandatory.
