Role Overview
The Design Director leads the overarching design vision within the organization, ensuring superior design quality across all divisions. This position also actively participates in marketing efforts and business development initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion the highest standards of design excellence and innovation aligned with client objectives and visions.
- Advance the company's mission of client-focused design methodologies and implementation.
- Manage and guide a team of designers effectively.
- Direct design presentations, oversee project design evolution, and maintain design consistency throughout the firm.
- Apply comprehensive knowledge of architectural practices including design principles, materials, construction approaches, engineering collaboration, regulatory codes, and cost management.
- Act as an industry thought leader by engaging in professional organizations, community outreach, and mentoring emerging design staff.
- Collaborate with internal design and strategy leaders to nurture and expand the firm's design culture and introduce innovative practices.
- Lead the adoption and integration of technology across design processes and deliverables.
- Contribute to the formulation and execution of firmwide design standards and guidelines.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 15 years of relevant professional experience.
- Bachelor of Architecture degree or higher.
- Registered Architect credential (NCARB certification) is mandatory.
- LEED Accredited Professional designation is preferred.
- Experience within corporate, educational, and healthcare sectors is advantageous.
- Strong dedication to client service excellence.
- Capability to manage competing priorities, work efficiently under pressure, and meet stringent deadlines.
- Exceptional communication skills, both oral and written.
Compensation and Equal Opportunity
For positions located in California, base salary ranges from $142,666 to $213,999, with the exact figure determined by qualifications, experience, location, and equitable considerations within the firm. Compensation packages may also include discretionary bonuses along with comprehensive health and financial benefits.
