Design Director

Role Overview

As a Design Director, you will serve as an expert evaluator of design work, focusing on quality assessment rather than creation. Your primary responsibility is to develop precise grading frameworks tailored to different design tasks and to assess completed design samples rigorously with well-justified written reviews.

Key Responsibilities

• Create detailed, task-specific grading rubrics for various design outputs including brand identities, campaign visuals, layout, packaging, and digital assets.
• Evaluate design work samples using established criteria, providing comprehensive, evidence-supported written explanations for each score awarded.
• Ensure consistent and reliable evaluative judgments so that scoring is reproducible and defendable across different reviewers.
• Integrate structured feedback from senior reviewers to rapidly refine grading standards and scoring methodologies.
• Maintain thorough documentation of evaluation rationales to aid in calibration and peer review processes.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Proven professional expertise in graphic, brand, or visual design disciplines.
• In-depth knowledge of design craft essentials including typography, layout, visual hierarchy, color theory, composition, and brand system development.
• Exceptional written communication skills, capable of expressing design critique with clarity and authority comparable to a design lead.
• Demonstrated history of applying consistent and detail-oriented judgment within professional design settings.

Additional Information

This position is offered as an hourly contract and is fully remote, allowing you to contribute from anywhere.

Compensation: $80 to $150 per hour.
