Data Center Technician

Overview

The Data Center Technician is primarily accountable for supporting the troubleshooting and coordination related to daily operations within data centers and critical infrastructure facilities. This position entails vendor and contractor management, as well as reporting to the Data Center Operation Site Lead.

Key Duties

• Supervise a team comprising contractors and vendors to ensure smooth daily data center functions.
• Conduct operational activities and routine inspections focusing on infrastructure, environmental conditions, and facility management within the data center.
• Monitor alert systems linked to critical facilities and infrastructure and escalate issues appropriately.
• Handle incident management and response concerning any downtime or malfunction within systems or facilities.
• Oversee service desk operations to maintain efficiency and effectiveness.
• Implement and maintain safety procedures for onsite activities.
• Coordinate with internal business units regarding utilities, building services, and facility related concerns.
• Support disaster recovery planning and execution processes.
• Maintain and administer documentation for building records, licenses, and permits.
• Ensure adherence to service delivery procedures, processes, and service level agreements.
• Regularly review data center operations and report identified gaps or problems.
• Prepare monthly reports covering data center and service desk performance.
• Manage the site asset database, updating entries consistent with Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) requirements.

Qualifications and Experience

• Holds a Diploma in Computer Science or an equivalent qualification.
• Possesses certifications relevant to data center operations, such as Certified Data Centre Professional.
• Has at least three years of professional experience within Data Centre Operations or Facilities Management.
• Knowledgeable about data center infrastructure, including Computer Room Air Conditioning (CRAC), fire suppression, water detection systems, and Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS).
• Experienced in service desk operations and incident management workflows.
• Basic understanding of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing (MEP) systems.
• Exhibits strong analytical skills coupled with resourcefulness and problem-solving abilities.
• Demonstrates effective communication and interpersonal skills.
