About the Role
The DataCenter Service / Datacenter Cloud System (DCS) team at TikTok plays a crucial role within the company's global technology framework by supporting rapid growth through the construction and operation of hyperscale data centers. The team manages server fleet lifecycles, provides cloud services, and develops infrastructure solutions to ensure scalability and reliability.
The position of Data Center Operations Engineer is seeking a seasoned professional with technical proficiency to thrive in a dynamic, fast-moving environment. The role demands deep knowledge of server hardware alongside a basic understanding of large-scale data center mechanical and electrical infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and prioritize support ticket queues based on business impact, ensuring timely resolution or escalation with thorough documentation.
- Lead daily operations by mentoring Data Center Technicians and managing hardware troubleshooting, maintenance, diagnostics, and component replacements.
- Oversee full server rack lifecycle activities such as rack-and-stack, cabling, and deployment.
- Drive data center projects and operational enhancements, including capacity upgrades, retrofits, infrastructure improvements, and new tool integration.
- Engage in incident management processes, including response, recovery, and root cause analysis to minimize downtime and repeat issues; participate in an on-call escalation rotation.
- Lead change management procedures and initiate changes as needed.
- Maintain accurate inventory, asset tracking, and operational record-keeping.
- Cultivate strong cross-functional collaborations, serve as an escalation point for issues, and promote continuous improvement through vendor engagements.
Qualifications
- Associate’s degree in IT, Computer Science, Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
- Minimum of three years’ hands-on experience in data center operations, IT infrastructure, or hardware support.
- Relevant certifications or equivalent knowledge such as EPI CDCP or CNET CDCTP.
- Proficient in server hardware diagnostics and repairs.
- Ability to lead and guide junior technicians efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
Preferred Skills
- Industry certifications like CompTIA A+, Network+, Server+, or Linux+.
- Experience working in large-scale data center environments.
- Basic understanding of mechanical and electrical systems within data centers.
- Knowledge in networking, scripting, or advanced hardware repair techniques.
- Experience with project support, incident management, or small team leadership.
- Familiarity operating material handling equipment such as pallet jacks and server lifts.
