Cyber Threat Analyst

Role Overview

The City of Gold Coast is seeking a proactive and skilled Cyber Threat Analyst to join the Chief Risk and Audit Office. This full-time position involves safeguarding the City's digital infrastructure by identifying, analyzing, and responding to cyber threats. The role requires active collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to fortify the organization's cyber security posture.

Key Duties

• Manage cyber security alerts and incidents from detection through resolution.
• Analyze security events to identify threats and understand adversary strategies, tactics, and techniques.
• Administer and monitor cyber security platforms including tasks such as patching, vulnerability management, and enhancing controls.
• Detect and resolve security vulnerabilities while advising stakeholders on best practices.
• Compile detailed post-incident reports and support continuous improvement through documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Make informed, risk-based decisions and suggest opportunities for automation in security operations.
• Review and authorize cyber security changes and service requests to ensure compliance with policies and standards.
• Promote a strong cyber security culture through customer engagement, participation in on-call support, and involvement in awareness campaigns.

Candidate Profile

• Demonstrable experience in incident analysis, detection engineering, or working within Security Operations Centers.
• Proficient in SIEM tools such as Splunk, scripting languages including Python and PowerShell, and query languages like KQL and SPL.
• Solid knowledge of attack frameworks like MITRE ATT&CK, threat modelling, and detection methodologies.
• Familiar with cybersecurity products and platforms such as CrowdStrike, Netskope, Splunk SOAR, Proofpoint, and MISP.

Additional Information

• Work schedule: Full-time, operating on a 9-day fortnight totaling 36 hours per week.
• Salary starting from AUD 101,616 plus superannuation benefits.
