About the Role
Novotel Queenstown Lakeside in Queenstown, New Zealand, is recruiting a Chief Engineer to supervise all engineering, maintenance, compliance, landscaping, and asset management activities within the busy 4-star hotel. Positioned centrally, the hotel presents a lively working atmosphere with varied daily challenges. This role is pivotal in ensuring exceptional guest experiences while safeguarding one of Queenstown's leading hospitality properties.
Responsibilities
- Lead and direct the Engineering and Maintenance team.
- Implement comprehensive preventative maintenance programs, and manage daily repairs alongside capital improvement projects.
- Maintain all hotel machinery, equipment, and building services to consistently high standards.
- Coordinate contractors, oversee permits, compliance documentation, and ensure statutory maintenance obligations are met.
- Supervise fire safety systems, emergency readiness, and enforce Health & Safety compliance.
- Monitor and manage maintenance budgets, asset records, and engineering documentation.
- Collaborate closely with Front Office and Housekeeping departments to optimize room availability and enhance guest satisfaction.
- Champion sustainability initiatives and encourage ongoing improvements throughout the property.
- Prepare detailed maintenance reports and be available to respond to after-hours emergencies as required.
- Manage and maintain staff accommodation, ensuring timely repairs and compliance with company standards.
Qualifications and Requirements
- Proven experience as a maintenance leader with strong problem-solving ability and leadership by example.
- Previous roles as Chief Engineer, Engineering Manager or Senior Maintenance Manager in hospitality, accommodation, or commercial facilities.
- In-depth knowledge of building systems including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire safety, and mechanical services.
- Thorough understanding of New Zealand Health & Safety standards.
- Experience in managing contractors, budgets, and compliance documentation.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational capabilities.
- Proactive attitude with the ability to prioritize varied demands effectively.
- Willingness to attend to after-hours emergencies and work weekends/public holidays as needed.
- Must have full legal working rights in New Zealand and ability to commit long term.
