Overview
This position involves supervising and regulating operational parameters of the unit or plant while collaborating with fellow operators on all operation-related tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Adhere strictly to safety protocols and be knowledgeable about fire safety equipment within the assigned area.
- Have a thorough understanding of plant P&IDs, standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, operational and control logics, emergency procedures, and related documentation.
- Continuously monitor unit parameters, record periodic readings in log sheets, and document all shift activities and events comprehensively in the logbook.
- Follow directives from the Shift Charge Engineer and Shift Supervisor, coordinating closely with other operators on operational activities.
- Stay vigilant and respond promptly during abnormal operating scenarios.
- Manage and ensure the Lock Out & Tag Out process during equipment isolation for maintenance conforming to the approved Permit to Work guidelines; reinstate equipment post-maintenance upon instruction.
- Inspect the unit and auxiliary equipment during shifts to verify that all parameters remain within prescribed limits; report any anomalies to supervisors.
- Conduct routine protection tests under supervision, maintain detailed records, and oversee scheduled equipment changeovers.
- Initiate work requests or defect reports for faulty equipment and oversee timely correction of issues.
- Provide assistance in training and acclimatizing new operators.
- Promptly report near-miss incidents and enforce established risk control measures.
- Notify any deviations concerning Quality, Health, Safety, and Environmental Management Systems.
- Ensure adherence to proper waste disposal protocols.
- Undertake any additional tasks as assigned.
Required Expertise and Knowledge
- Basic understanding of Quality, Occupational Health & Safety, and Environmental Management System principles.
- Familiarity with waste identification, classification, and disposal methods.
- Knowledge of emission monitoring procedures.
- Awareness of the environmental and health impacts of chemicals utilized in the plant.
- Competence with firefighting equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Understanding of first aid protocols.
- Good grasp of power and water plant operations.
- Effective interpersonal and communication skills.
- Analytical thinking capabilities.
- Ability to conduct hazard risk assessments.
- Knowledge of aspect impact assessment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
Qualification and Experience
- Essential: Diploma in Engineering.
- Preferred: Bachelor of Engineering.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role.
- Awareness or working knowledge of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS 18001 standards is advantageous.
