Role Overview
The position of Cashier at Ujjivan Small Finance Bank is a full-time role based at the branch, reporting directly to the Branch Operation Officer. This role is fundamental in managing all cash-related activities within the branch as per both internal policies and external banking regulations. It requires precise handling of daily transactions and thorough recording in relevant registers and digital systems, culminating in daily reconciliation.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensure smooth branch operations by accurately processing cash transactions and maintaining accounts.
- Oversee all cash handling duties including receipt and processing of cheques, drafts, pay orders, and other financial instruments within authorized limits along with issuing acknowledgments.
- Manage cash disbursements and deposits, including collecting EMI repayments and recording them in the system.
- Maintain various registers such as inward/outward, petty cash, and assets, and facilitate requisition forms for the Regional Head Office.
- Carry out daily cash tallying against transactional records and generate end-of-day reports.
- Collaborate with the operations officer to manage branch vault operations and safeguard cash securely.
- Engage with customers during cash transactions, identify opportunities for cross-selling, and inform them about new bank products and services.
Service Excellence
- Deliver exceptional customer service by promptly addressing their queries and needs with politeness and professionalism.
- Escalate unresolved customer concerns to appropriate authorities swiftly.
- Clarify repayment schedules and provide contact information to customers during transactions.
- Encourage clients to utilize alternative banking channels for deposits, withdrawals, and inquiries for enhanced convenience.
Operational Duties
- Perform cash counting and verifications at the start and end of each day prior to vaulting.
- Jointly responsible with the Assistant Branch Manager for the security of cash, keys, and valuables in the branch.
- Ensure timely transaction handling and strict adherence to prescribed turnaround times.
- Comply fully with bank policies and relevant regulatory requirements concerning cashier and cash management processes.
- Validate the authenticity of cash withdrawal requests and verify accuracy of deposit slips in line with audit standards.
- Update bank passbooks when transactions occur and prepare cash bundles for currency chest deposits with necessary documentation.
Learning & Development
- Stay current on Ujjivan’s offerings, regulatory obligations, and KYC principles.
- Participate in and complete certifications and mandatory training programs organized by the operations department.
- Engage in goal-setting, mid-year reviews, and performance appraisals according to schedule.
Qualifications & Experience
- Undergraduate degree required, ideally in Finance or Commerce.
- Experience of 1 to 2 years in high-volume cash handling and accounting tasks.
- Familiarity with financial modules or ERP systems and consolidation of accounting data.
Skills & Competencies
- Expertise in cash management and accounting practices.
- Capability to identify counterfeit currency notes.
- Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to timely customer service.
- Proficiency with computer operations and relevant software; training will be provided.
- Strong numerical and multitasking abilities.

- Competencies including execution, relationship management, and customer focus.
Key Interactions
- Coordinate internally with regional operations teams, FCU officers, and service quality executives.
- Engage externally with neighboring banks, cash management agencies, and business correspondent agents.
