Role Purpose
The primary objective of the Business Process Auditor role is to verify that the bank maintains effective controls over its financial, operational, and information systems, while ensuring adequate risk management frameworks and adherence to exemplary corporate governance practices.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and execute routine audits systematically according to the audit schedule.
- Design audit programs and strategies to evaluate internal controls aligned with audit standards and objectives.
- Lead audit teams during field operations and manage specialized, ad hoc reviews as necessary.
- Detect business risks and control vulnerabilities, recommending suitable mitigation plans.
- Assess the robustness, relevance, and efficiency of financial, operational, and information system controls intended to reduce risks.
- Discuss identified audit findings with process owners, agreeing on remedial actions and timelines.
- Produce comprehensive and timely audit reports compliant with auditing standards.
- Monitor and verify that audit issues are resolved within agreed deadlines.
- Conduct risk evaluation during annual and engagement-level audit planning to prioritize focus areas.
- Develop detailed engagement plans covering objectives, scope, methodology, and required resources.
- Manage the entire audit assignment lifecycle including evidence gathering, testing, and documentation.
- Maintain thorough audit working papers that provide reliable evidence.
- Ensure timely completion of each audit engagement.
- Prepare clear audit reports featuring well-supported findings and practical recommendations.
- Present audit outcomes to management and other key stakeholders.
- Follow up on corrective actions by management to confirm satisfactory remediation.
- Contribute to improving audit procedures, tools, and methodologies, including leveraging Teammate and data analytic tools.
- Continuously upgrade knowledge of business operations, risks, internal controls, regulatory frameworks, and best practices, incorporating these insights into audit methodologies.
Qualifications and Experience
- A minimum of five years total audit experience in a prominent audit firm or commercial banking environment.
- Bachelor's degree in business or a closely related discipline.
- Professional certifications including CPA (Kenya) or ACCA, plus CISA.
