About the Role
The Rizco Group of Companies is initiating a new venture in the pharmaceutical sector and seeks a dynamic Business Development Manager to establish and head this division in Gaborone, Botswana. This role involves pioneering efforts in pharmaceutical distribution across Botswana and the Southern African territories, focusing on strategic growth rather than conventional sales management.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement the pharmaceutical division's growth strategy.
- Build the pharmaceutical business unit from inception.
- Source and secure partnerships with pharmaceutical manufacturers in India, South Africa, and other global markets.
- Lead negotiations to obtain exclusive distribution rights with top-tier manufacturers.
- Oversee product registration and ensure adherence to Botswana Medicines Regulatory Authority (BoMRA) standards.
- Curate a lucrative range of prescription drugs, OTC products, medical consumables, and healthcare items.
- Develop and sustain relationships with hospitals, pharmacies, wholesalers, government bodies, NGOs, and corporate clients.
- Pursue government tender opportunities and institutional contracts.
- Recruit, train, and manage a proficient sales and regulatory affairs team.
- Steer sales momentum, enhance profitability, and facilitate sustainable business expansion.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- 7 to 10 years of substantial experience in pharmaceutical business development or senior leadership roles.
- Proven ability to launch and grow a pharmaceutical enterprise or division from the ground up.
- Well-established connections with pharmaceutical manufacturers in India and South Africa.
- Thorough understanding of BoMRA registration procedures and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated success in government tendering, institutional sales, and key account management.
- Expert negotiation skills with a history of securing exclusive distribution contracts.
- Experience in building and leading pharmaceutical sales and regulatory teams.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and strategic planning capabilities.
- Bachelor’s degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Business, or related disciplines; an MBA is advantageous.
