Job Overview
This role involves reviewing construction plans and inspecting both residential and commercial buildings through various stages, ensuring adherence to applicable building codes and regulations. The inspector also addresses citizen concerns, issues violation notices, and collaborates with architects, engineers, and contractors.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate building plans for conformity with city, state, and federal construction codes.
- Inspect residential and commercial construction sites as well as mobile home parking for code violations.
- Verify compliance during change of use or occupancy for existing buildings.
- Respond to public complaints and issue compliance notices as necessary, maintaining detailed records for potential legal action.
- Advise architects, engineers, builders, and the public regarding codes, ordinances, and zoning regulations.
- Participate in meetings and stay informed on innovations and trends in building inspection and plan review.
- Conduct safety inspections focusing on seismic precautions and overall code enforcement.
- Investigate hazardous building complaints and monitor for issues such as excessive weed growth in subdivisions.
Compensation
The starting salary for this position is $38,299 per year.
