Job description

Overview

We are seeking a Building Inspector to join our team in Londonderry, Northern Ireland. This field-based role involves visiting sites in Derry - Londonderry City, Strabane, and Eglinton to ensure that homes built by registered builders comply fully with NHBC Standards, Building Regulations, and applicable laws. You will collaborate closely with site managers to prevent construction defects and help deliver high-quality homes to buyers, mitigating insurance risks for our company.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct daily site inspections to verify compliance with building standards and regulations.
  • Develop strong working relationships with site managers and builders to facilitate defect identification and resolution.
  • Manage your appointment schedule independently, starting your workday from home without requirement to work weekends.
  • Support the company’s mission by promoting NHBC’s values and delivering excellent customer service.

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive and relevant experience in house-building or construction sectors.
  • Capability to communicate effectively, build trust, and handle disagreements assertively while preserving positive relationships.
  • Skilled in gathering and analyzing information to inform inspection decisions.
  • Knowledge of the house-building process and interrelation among various trades.
  • Physical ability to conduct site inspections frequently at heights and around construction environments.
  • Motivated to continuously learn and stay current with industry standards and improvements.
  • Customer-focused with commitment to quality and satisfaction.
  • Possession or pursuit of construction-related qualifications such as City and Guilds, HNC, HND, or NVQ (or equivalent) is desirable.
  • A valid full driving licence is mandatory.
