Role Overview
The Biology Department is hiring part-time adjunct faculty for the Fall 2026 semester to teach one or more sections of General Biology Laboratory. These are in-person lab sections that meet once each week for two hours and cover topics such as microscopy, Excel-based graphing, enzymes, polymerase chain reaction, and gel electrophoresis.
Teaching availability is needed during either 1:00–3:00 p.m. or 3:00–5:00 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and/or Thursdays.
Responsibilities
- Teach 2–6 credits, with those credits counted as contact time with students.
- Create pre-lab talks, projects, homework, assessments, and other assignments that match the course syllabus.
- Review and grade student work promptly and give useful feedback that supports academic progress.
- Hold regular office hours and provide at least one additional hour each week, either in person or online, for student support.
- Attend program or department meetings when asked.
- Apply current college-level teaching practices and provide clear instruction in the subject area.
- Use university technology tools to support teaching and learning.
- Attend all scheduled class meetings throughout the semester according to the academic calendar.
- Submit mid-semester and final grades to the Registrar within the required deadlines and turn over course records to the department chair at the end of the course.
- Maintain a supportive learning environment that helps students succeed.
Qualifications
- A master's degree or higher in Biology or a closely related scientific field is required for undergraduate teaching, and the degree must come from a regionally accredited institution.
- Ability to work effectively with students and employees from varied cultural backgrounds is required.
- Applicants must be aligned with the University of Saint Joseph mission.
- Previous teaching experience is strongly preferred.
Additional Information
- Appointments are part-time, last for one semester at a time, and depend on student enrollment and departmental need.

Compensation
Pay is offered on a per 2-credit lab course basis and depends on degree level and teaching experience:
- Non-terminal degree with 0–6 credits of teaching experience: $2000
- Terminal degree with 0–6 credits of teaching experience: $2133
- Non-terminal degree with 7+ credits of teaching experience: $2267
- Terminal degree with 7+ credits of teaching experience: $2467
