About AROA Biosurgery and the Role
AROA Biosurgery, based in New Zealand, specializes in soft tissue regeneration through development of extracellular matrix (ECM) biomaterials aimed at advancing regenerative medicine. Their Research division focuses on investigating the biological processes behind tissue repair and creating innovative biomaterial technologies to enhance patient treatment outcomes.
We are inviting applications for a six-month Associate Research Scientist position within the Discovery Research team. This opportunity is funded by the MBIE R&D Career Grant program and offers exposure to cutting-edge biomaterials research within a commercial biotech setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform mammalian cell culture and maintain cell lines routinely.
- Conduct immunohistochemistry (IHC) procedures and analyze images.
- Carry out RT-qPCR experiments including RNA extraction, cDNA synthesis, and gene expression profiling.
- Execute ELISA and other biochemical assays.
- Analyze and interpret experimental data accurately.
- Keep detailed laboratory records and contribute to technical documentation.
- Present research findings and actively engage in team scientific discussions.
- Collaborate safely within a multidisciplinary research environment.
Candidate Profile
- Holds an MSc or PhD in Cell Biology, Biomedical Science, Immunology, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in mammalian cell culture.
- Skilled in performing immunohistochemistry techniques.
- Practical experience with RT-qPCR methodologies.
- Proficient in ELISA and other related biochemical testing.
- Exceptional organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
- Strong oral and written communication abilities.
- Ability to work autonomously while positively contributing to team efforts.
Additional beneficial skills include microbiology, flow cytometry, fluorescence microscopy, histology, image analysis, and statistical analysis tools such as GraphPad Prism, though these are not mandatory.
Eligibility Criteria
- Applicants must qualify under the MBIE R&D Career Grant rules.
- Must have completed a Master's or PhD (NZQA Level 9 or 10) within the last 12 months, including thesis submission or completion of a taught Master’s degree.
- Be a New Zealand citizen or have graduated from a New Zealand tertiary institution.
- Possess legal work eligibility within New Zealand.
- Have limited prior paid industry employment relevant to their field of study, except for temporary, part-time roles or academic positions.
- Not previously employed by AROA Biosurgery in a related full-time role except for temporary positions under three months or specific internship grants.
