Role Overview

The Assistant Manager – Safety is instrumental in developing and maintaining a robust safety culture throughout the power plant. The position calls for hands-on involvement in the planning, implementation, and continuous improvement of safety programs and practices, with specific focus on compliance, risk mitigation, and promoting awareness among all stakeholders.

Main Responsibilities

  • Spearhead safety initiatives, campaigns, and regular emergency drills to ensure preparedness.
  • Design and conduct safety training, including induction sessions and vertigo assessments for new personnel and contract workers.
  • Deliver and track comprehensive EHS (Environment, Health, Safety) training programs; manage associated data and reporting.
  • Support and contribute to incident investigations, analyzing root causes and developing targeted preventive measures.
  • Organize safety awareness activities and reinforce standards with agency staff and workers.
  • Drive recurring safety campaigns and report observations using systems like GENSUITE; ensure compliance tracking and follow-ups.
  • Provide inputs for both internal and external audits and regularly inspect operations for safety adherence.
  • Oversee the use and availability of personal protective equipment (PPE) to match safety specifications and contractual obligations.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports for internal management and for recognition in national safety award programs.
  • Issue and audit work permits for specialized operations (height, confined space, hot work, etc.).
  • Ensure every aspect of department operations aligns with guidelines from IMS, AWMS, DISHA, and CHETNA.
  • Champion new technologies for digitization and process automation to improve safety management systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (B.Tech, BE, or BSc) in Fire Safety, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline, with an Advanced Diploma as a mandatory requirement.
  • A minimum of 7 years' practical experience in managing safety operations in the power, energy, or heavy industry sectors.

Key Stakeholder Relationships

  • Collaborate with all internal departments for integrated safety practices.
  • Coordinate with external audit agencies to ensure audit readiness and compliance.
