Position Overview

The Philipps University of Marburg, established in 1527, renowned for excellence in teaching for around 22,000 students and broad scientific research, is offering a full-time, fixed-term position until December 9, 2027. The role is within the Department of Mathematics and Computer Science, Algorithmics Group, supporting a third-party funded project "Computing over Compressed Graph-Structured Data." This project aims to extend computation on compressed data to graph-structured datasets by generalizing optimally compressed tree data structures to classes of graphs.

Responsibilities

• Contribute actively to scientific research projects within the Algorithmics group.
• Provide scientific services such as developing innovative software research prototypes.
• Supervise student theses related to the research project.

Candidate Profile

• Excellent academic degree (Diploma, Master's or equivalent) in Computer Science, Mathematics or related fields.
• Doctorate completed or demonstrable significant progress in PhD studies in Algorithmics, theoretical computer science, or related disciplines.
• Specialized knowledge in one or more relevant research domains including succinct data structures, data compression, information theory, algorithm analysis, graph theory, discrete optimization, lower bounds of data structures, approximation algorithms, beyond-worst-case analysis, and algorithm engineering.
• Proven track record with publications in respected conferences and journals.
• Fluency in English, both spoken and written, and excellent skills in presenting research findings.

Additional Information

This is a project position classified under Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-H (Hessian pay agreement). The contract is not limited under the WissZeitVG §2 subsection 1.
