Role Overview
The Vessel Planner will work full-time on-site in Doha, Qatar, managing and coordinating vessel loading and unloading activities. Responsibilities include devising efficient stowage strategies to optimize container and cargo placement based on vessel specifics and safety guidelines. This role requires close collaboration with stevedoring teams, operations personnel, and shipping representatives to ensure smooth cargo movements. Daily operations involve examining booking lists and manifests, monitoring cargo flow, updating planning systems, and handling immediate operational challenges to reduce vessel turnaround times. The planner will maintain compliance with port regulations, safety, and environmental standards while producing precise documentation and reports that support performance analysis and ongoing process improvements in port and terminal operations.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Experience in vessel, terminal, or port operations planning, including cargo stowage and allocation.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills to manage operational demands promptly in a dynamic setting.
- Proficiency in planning and terminal operating software alongside common MS Office applications such as Excel, Word, and Outlook.
- Familiarity with maritime safety rules, port operating protocols, and cargo handling requirements.
- Excellent communication and coordination capabilities to engage effectively with stevedores, operational teams, and external stakeholders.
- Meticulous organizational skills with an emphasis on accuracy in documentation and operational efficiency.
- Educational background including diploma or degree in logistics, supply chain management, maritime studies, engineering, or a related discipline.
- Prior work experience in stevedoring, shipping, or logistics sectors, especially within the Gulf region or comparable markets, is beneficial.
- Flexibility to work in shifts, including weekends or extended hours aligned with vessel scheduling.
