Transit Supervisor

Position Overview

The Transit Supervisor oversees the planning, supervision, and coordination of motor coach and paratransit operations within the Transit Department's Operations Division. This role involves collaborating with various divisions, external agencies, and the public while providing critical support to the Transit Manager/Operations. It is a safety-sensitive position requiring participation in random drug and alcohol testing.

Key Responsibilities

• Organize and manage staffing and daily operational activities for motor coach and paratransit services, ensuring safe and efficient service delivery.
• Assist in setting and implementing goals, policies, and priorities to improve transit services, recommending operational changes when necessary.
• Monitor safety and performance of motor coach operators and van chauffeurs and develop strategies to enhance service quality.
• Supervise and coordinate work plans and assignments, review workflow, and address any operational challenges with team members.
• Coordinate transit service changes and special event logistics with city agencies, including planning alternate routes and extending service hours.
• Contribute to the design and review of new or revised transit routes for accuracy and efficiency.
• Maintain operational records and analyze personnel scheduling to meet service demands.
• Lead recruitment, training, motivation, performance evaluation, and disciplinary actions for motor coach and van staff.
• Provide administrative assistance to the Transit Manager, participate in committees, and prepare reports and correspondence.
• Respond promptly to emergencies, accidents, or incidents related to transit operations.
• Ensure adherence to federal drug and alcohol testing regulations for transit operators.
• Collaborate with other divisions and external partners to align transit activities effectively.

Additional Responsibilities

• Engage in professional development by attending industry meetings and staying informed on transit service innovations.
• Compile analytical and statistical reports on transit operations.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Associate's degree in business or related field from an accredited institution.
• Minimum five years of experience in transit operations or transportation management, including at least one year in a supervisory or lead role.
• Valid New Mexico driver's license or ability to acquire by hire date.
• Obtain a City Operator's Permit within six months of employment.
• Acquire a New Mexico Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B with Passenger endorsement within two weeks after completing city CDL training and maintain CDL thereafter.

Working Environment

• Combination of office and field environments, with potential exposure to smoke, fumes, and gases.
• Physical demands include prolonged sitting, walking, or standing, and operating motorized vehicles and equipment.
