Job description
About Morpho
Morpho is a pioneering protocol in Decentralized Finance (DeFi) lending, supported by major investors such as a16z crypto, Paradigm, Ribbit Capital, Apollo, Vaneck, Coinbase Ventures, Variant, among others. It is building an open credit network that offers universal access to optimal lending terms. The platform has witnessed rapid growth with over a billion dollars deposited and adoption by institutional clients and leading crypto exchanges including Coinbase, Binance, and Kraken. Morpho aims to establish itself as the global standard for open credit networks beyond DeFi.
Mission
Morpho's goal is to democratize capital access by addressing systemic fragmentation and intermediaries that currently restrict fair lending. The existing system leaves many underserved or excluded due to location, connections, or rigid institutions. Morpho works to unite credit markets, assuring fair returns for lenders and affordable rates for borrowers worldwide.
Location and Work Arrangement
Position based in Paris or remote within a timezone range from GMT-5 to GMT+2 to maintain substantial overlap with the global team.
Role Overview
This leadership role is responsible for building and guiding the platform engineering team, taking full ownership of the infrastructure roadmap, enhancing system reliability to institutional standards, and fostering the professional growth of engineers.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow the platform engineering team, including recruitment, performance management, and career development while maintaining high technical and cultural standards.
- Define and manage the infrastructure roadmap and technical strategy by aligning business priorities into a manageable backlog with documented architectural decisions balancing speed, cost, and stability.
- Boost engineering speed with initiatives such as self-service infrastructure, optimizing continuous integration/delivery for a monorepo, and developer tools that reduce deployment time to minutes.
- Improve security and reliability by implementing zero-trust identity and access management, comprehensive observability of critical services, proactive alert systems, blameless incident response, and post-mortem analysis, while preparing for multi-region deployment and meeting institutional service level objectives.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, protocol, and business teams to ensure platform engineering supports product delivery effectively without becoming a bottleneck.
- Instill an engineering culture that prioritizes clear architectural documentation, infrastructure as code practices, and mentorship that empowers engineers to deliver confidently.
Success Milestones
- Within 30 days: Gain in-depth understanding of on-chain deployment and infrastructure challenges, publish platform strategy and 90-day roadmap, initiate individual team meetings, and lead weekly incident and architecture reviews.
- Within 3 months: Fully staff the platform team aligned to priorities, launch a self-service deployment pipeline featuring automated rollbacks for a primary service, and implement observability with proactive alerts and defined SLOs.
- Within 6 months: Deploy zero-trust IAM and multi-region readiness for key services with tested failover; achieve measurable gains in developer productivity and cost savings, with a self-sufficient, high-performing team.
Required Qualifications and Experience
- Minimum 8 years experience in infrastructure or platform engineering with at least 3 years in engineering team leadership roles.
- Proven ability to build and scale robust production infrastructures from startups to enterprise levels, ensuring reliability and excellent developer experience outcomes.
- Demonstrated success leading platform or infrastructure transformations that improved developer velocity and system reliability, supported by tangible metrics.
- Strong expertise in event-driven systems, Kubernetes ecosystems, GitOps, and cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
- Management-focused with hands-on involvement in architecture reviews, technical decision-making, and incident response.
- Exceptional cross-team leadership impacting product, protocol, and business units without direct authority.
- Adaptability and comfort in fast-moving, ambiguous environments lacking established procedures.
- Clear, concise asynchronous communicator skilled in writing RFCs, runbooks, and incident documentation.
- High ownership, autonomy, and a team-oriented, humble approach.
- Authentic interest in cryptocurrency and decentralized finance.

Morpho offers competitive, top-tier compensation with flexible work arrangements, opportunities for professional development, periodic collaboration events in Paris, comprehensive health coverage, and a supportive environment for continued learning.
