About the Role
Are you prepared to lead the surfacing operations in Gisborne and shape their future? Fulton Hogan seeks a Surfacing Department Manager responsible for overseeing surfacing projects, guiding a skilled team, and ensuring high-quality outcomes for clients and the community. This role offers expansive responsibilities including planning and execution of surfacing activities, managing pricing for external works, ensuring safety and quality standards, maintaining client relationships, and driving strong financial results. You will have the autonomy to take initiative and champion your team while upholding high standards without excessive bureaucracy.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the Surfacing Department with a firm commitment to health and safety, fostering a safety-first culture.
- Plan, schedule, and deliver surfacing projects for major clients and third-party customers across the Gisborne region.
- Coordinate work crews, machinery, materials, and subcontractors to ensure jobs progress safely, punctually, and meet quality benchmarks.
- Manage project planning, resource allocation, reporting, claims processing, and monitor program success.
- Foster a supportive team environment that values honest communication and strives for excellent work on the first attempt.
Candidate Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
- Possession of a Class 1 driver's license; WTR endorsement preferred.
- Minimum five years of experience in civil construction with at least two years in a comparable managerial position.
- Strong business, financial, and operations expertise with proven ability to lead teams and balance multiple priorities.
- Demonstrates a hands-on, forward-thinking, and team-oriented approach prioritizing safety, respect, and quality work.
