Student Supervisor

Position Overview

This opening is for one permanent full-time Student Supervisor position working 80 hours biweekly, with additional auxiliary on-call roles available. Employed by the Yukon Department of Education, the role focuses on supporting rural students living away from home through a team-oriented “home away from home” program.

Key Responsibilities

The Student Supervisor supports youth by providing mentorship, guidance, resolving conflicts, overseeing academic assistance, preparing food, and completing custodial and office tasks. This position fosters a nurturing environment that supports intellectual, physical, social, and emotional growth of students residing in student housing.

Desired Qualifications

Candidates should have post-secondary education in fields such as Education, Social Sciences, Sports, or Recreation. Experience in working with youth in culturally diverse settings, program planning and coordination, and youth supervision is required. Familiarity with Yukon communities and cultural contexts is considered a plus. Equivalent combinations of training and experience will also be considered.

Skills and Abilities

Successful applicants will demonstrate interpersonal skills, personal accountability, client focus, and ethical behavior. An understanding of the diverse needs of rural teenagers, with empathy and cultural sensitivity, is essential. Effective communication skills and adaptability to different situations are also important.

Additional Requirements

• Must obtain security clearance including vulnerable sector check.
• Valid certifications in First Aid, Food Safe, First Nations 101, and Canadian Child Care Professional (CCCP).
• The role requires shift work covering days, evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays, all onsite.

Work Environment and Commitment
