Role Summary
The Storage Administrator is the technical custodian and ultimate escalation authority for enterprise storage platforms. This role entails accountability for architecture, performance, scalability, security, and the lifecycle management of block and file storage in production environments. The position involves leading major incident management, capacity planning, platform upgrade projects, and standardization efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, design, and governance of enterprise storage platforms.
- Establish and enforce storage standards and best practices.
- Manage and resolve major incidents including root cause analysis.
- Conduct capacity forecasting and optimize performance.
- Design and manage storage solutions ensuring high availability and disaster recovery.
- Plan and implement storage platform upgrades, migrations, and lifecycle management.
- Ensure security hardening, compliance adherence, and audit preparedness.
- Evaluate risks related to end-of-life/end-of-service equipment and coordinate remediation.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to Level 1 and Level 2 storage teams.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, cloud, and application teams on platform-related initiatives.
- Function as the final escalation point for storage-related issues.
- Make design decisions, chart the platform roadmap, and maintain platform stability.
- Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence within storage operations.
Required Skills and Expertise
- Comprehensive experience with enterprise storage platforms including NetApp FAS/AFF and HPE 3PAR, Primera, Alletra.
- Proficient in SAN and NAS architecture design and management.
- Advanced understanding of SAN fabric, zoning, and multipathing techniques.
- Strong competence in storage architecture design and standardization.
- Skilled in capacity planning, performance tuning, and scalability architecture.
- Knowledgeable in storage security, vulnerability management, and compliance requirements.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills including leading root cause analysis for major incidents.
- Experience supporting enterprise production environments operating 24/7.
Additional Beneficial Skills
- Experience integrating storage with VMware and virtualization technologies.
- Exposure to automation or scripting for operational efficiency.
- Familiarity with working in regulated or audit-driven organizational settings.
- Understanding of backup processes and disaster recovery integration with storage solutions.
