Software Engineer III

Position Overview

We are seeking a Software Engineer III who is enthusiastic about creating dependable, scalable backend systems and comfortable working across the technology stack when necessary. Key Responsibilities

• Take full ownership of small to medium-sized backend features, handling all stages from technical research, design, and implementation to testing, deployment, and iterative improvement.
• Manage one or more non-critical backend services or components, ensuring their reliability, maintainability, thorough documentation, and extensibility.
• Develop clean, modular, and testable code primarily using Ruby, Ruby on Rails, and Python, with occasional involvement in frontend coding to support complete feature delivery.
• Participate in designing and evolving APIs, including GraphQL and REST endpoints that serve frontend and partner applications, adhering to established architectural standards and best practices.
• Maintain strong observability and operational health of the owned services through comprehensive logging, monitoring, alerting, root-cause analysis, and proactive improvements.
• Engage actively in technical discussions, offering thoughtful insights that balance simplicity, maintainability, and performance while deepening system knowledge.
• Enhance team productivity by providing high-quality code reviews, sharing context, removing blockers, and fostering a culture of strong engineering collaboration.

Daily Tasks

• Design and implement scalable, resilient backend systems using Ruby on Rails, Python, and PostgreSQL.
• Develop and integrate complex features, including connections with external platforms like Salesforce.
• Make independent technical design decisions for assigned features.
• Own and improve GraphQL services powering both frontend and partner-facing applications.
• Enhance system reliability via rigorous testing, monitoring, alerting, and operational best practices.
• Regularly release production-quality code through a modern continuous integration/continuous deployment pipeline.
• Conduct code and design reviews with a strong emphasis on maintainability, performance, and long-term impact.

Qualifications and Experience

• Minimum of 4 years' experience developing and maintaining high-availability backend systems.
• Proven track record of delivering backend features and owning backend systems.
• Strong foundational skills in system design, API development, and data modeling.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying technical decisions and trade-offs to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience collaborating with US-based stakeholders and representing the engineering team in critical discussions.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and elevate the technical capabilities of the team.
• Comfortable working with ambiguous problems and iterating toward robust solutions.

Technical Skills

• Expertise in Python or Ruby, including proficiency in frameworks such as Ruby on Rails, FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
• Familiarity with ReactJS and capability to contribute to front-end components for full-stack feature implementation.
• Advanced skills in SQL and experience with PostgreSQL or similar relational database systems.
• Hands-on experience with AWS services such as S3, SQS, SES, EventBridge, or related cloud-native offerings.
• Knowledge of containerization technologies like Docker.
• Exposure to distributed systems concepts and platform engineering.
• Understanding of background job processing, asynchronous workflows, and event-driven architecture.
